Connecting to the World

Teaching Personal Devices as Assistive Tools

A Mind-shift is required for successful implementation of personal devices as tools into classrooms.

Steps to Implementing Personal Devices Successfully

1) Commit to learning new devices and apps, give up class time to teach to students

2) Explicitly teach key features of new apps or programs

3) Allow time for the students to investigate on their own

4) Reflect, discuss, share our own learning " tips/tricks"

5) Ask students " How would you use this for your learning?"

Creation of a Game Plan helps students stay organized.

Just like technology our game plan will change.

The Use of Transformational Technology

We think of the term transformational technology as a mindset. It is easiest understood if we frame the definition as a question.

"Could we have done this without the use of our technology?"

This question can be broken down into two separate questions...
  1. Could the student have produced this work without the use of his/her technology
  2. Could the teacher have created this lesson or task without the use of technology?
